The Weather Outside is Frightful....

With the worst blizzard season that the northeast has seen I feel like my facebook feed is covered in pictures of mountainous snow along with paragraph-long complaints.  I am not saying that I enjoy this level of massive downpour.  Nor am I discounting anyone's complaints....this snowy season has been painful.

But in the midst of listening to a podcast about care taking for the elderly during the wintertime, I had a revelation.  What is everyone really whining about?!?!

If you have warmth, a home, and are physically able to take care of yourself this winter ... you are BLESSED.

So what can you do to help out those who really deserve to be whining?  How can you aid those who are truly struggling this winter???  Here are some thought joggers:
  • Offer to shovel/snow-blow an elderly neighbors house. When you run to the store, perhaps check to see if they are in need of any salt or groceries in case traveling is a challenge for them in this weather.
  • Contact you nearby schools to see if any space heaters are needed.  Can they use any donations to aid with classrooms that are not well insulated?  Can your handy work or shoveling abilities be of aid or use to them this winter?  If you can not afford to donate yourself, offer to set up a donation site and advertise for others to donate...
  • Help push a strangers stuck car!
  • Volunteer some of your off time.  'Day Shelters' where the homeless have the opportunity to stay inside during the cold days.  'Meals on Wheels' which provide warm meals to many in need - and often struggle with timely deliveries in these rough winters.
  • Offer to carpool with your friends who have little cars that may struggle in the snow.  Or let them crash at your house if their water pipes froze...or lend them your extra heater if their furnace broke....
  • Donate old jackets, blankets & hats to homeless shelters.  Help keep someone else warm.  Set up a box at work and ask others to donate their old items!  Check out my Monthly Highlight about Scott Roberts & get inspired....can you crochet/knit??? Consider donating some of your skills to those in need this winter.
  • Play with a kid in the snow!  Suck up your freezing toes and take a cutie on one more sled ride...
  • Warm someones soul!  Pay for a coffee for the next person in line at your morning coffee shop.

What other ways can you break the winter hate and shed some love into others lives this winter?  Tell me your suggestions!

Keep everyone warm ....  Inside and Out!
