A goal set is a goal Met

As an avid believer in the idea that you will not commit to goals unless you clearly lay them out- I figured that I would share my goals for this 6 month travel/judo venture.  Hopefully it will keep me focused and it will be interesting in 3 months to see how these have altered and shifted!

  • Train more than I was with a full time job
    • add in yoga and running more consistently
      • stretch at every training session
    • increase lifting to consistently be 4 times a week
    • more focused hours on the mat doing judo
      • give back to judo- aid where i can, be supportive of my partners.  embrace the ideals of judo- be beneficial to others.
      • become a better student- be the type of athlete that coaches want to have. be coachable.  always listen.  push myself. be excited to learn and grow daily.
  • Spend some time daily reflecting and mental training
    • listening to motivational speeches
    • meditating
    • CALM app
  • Spend more time studying judo
    • videos online, at tournaments I attend
    • via the notes I take after practice
      • spend time reading and reflecting on these notes prior to my next practices
  • Take care of my body.  Eat well.  Take supplements. Rest between sessions.  Soak in the sun!
  • Appreciate the cultures I am exposed to
    • Try new foods
    • Pay attention to cultural tendencies.  Be observant.  Be respectful.  Ask questions.
    • Learn languages....despite my fear of this.
    • See tourist traps.  Wander through back roads.  Get lost.
    • Check out public transit and try anything recommended.
    • During Ramadan- as others pray and follow their religious path, find a way to get in touch with my religious self
  • Spend down time doing whatever is pure in my heart.
    • Writing. Reading. Music. Investigating on the internet.  Online classes.  Researching for future ventures.
    • This is the area that most intrigues me as daily it could alter and ultimately may lead to whatever my post-trip passions and adventures area.
  • Take notes in terms of judo differences between cultures.  What do I want to bring back to America?  What drills, equipment, recruiting techniques, moves, gym layouts...are worth copying?
  • Reach out to my role models.  Find out how they got where they are.
    • this one is the most daunting and therefore the most exciting to me!

What are your goals?  Are you laying them out?
I've found that when I keep them bottled up, they are easier to ignore.

Here is to stop ignoring and fully embracing ALL that I hope to get out of this trip!
